UGC Fellowship To minorities Students 2023, also known as UGC Fellowship in Students of Minority Students 2023 University Grants Commission or UGC the authority for higher education is inviting applicants for the award of the Maulana Azad’s National Fellowship or MANF award to minority students during the academic period 2023-24. It is reported that the Commission is increasing the amount of fellowships available to 1,000, up from 756.

In accordance with the UGC the UGC, students from minorities enrolled in full-time research in institutions of higher education can be eligible for the fellowships. “The candidates who have qualified CBSE-UGC-NET/JRF/CSIR-NET/JRF held in December 2017 and June 2018 are eligible to apply,” said the UGC notification released on December 10.

The MANF program is open to those who are part of any of the minority communities i.e. Muslim, Sikh, Parsi, Buddhist, and Christian to pursue higher education including full-time or regular research degrees in the sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences as well as Engineering and Technology.

The UGC announcement was announced today on www.ugc.ac.in (when we last checked the official website, it was not working). The Commission is yet to release specifics of RGNF fellowships. This announcement was delayed for the past two years. This RGNF Scheme to help Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (now changed to National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students) is being developed and is funded with the help of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The scheme is available to those who are members of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe who are interested in pursuing higher studies like regular and fully-time degrees of research in Sciences Humanities, Humanities, Social Sciences as well as Engineering and Technology.

The purpose to this Fellowship is to offer five-year fellowships in form of financial aid to students from minority groups, informed by the Central Government, to pursue M. Phil and Ph.D. The Fellowship is administered through UGC’s Ministry of Minority Affairs through UGC for students from minorities communities. The recipients of the Fellowship will be called Ministry of Minority Affairs scholars.

The scheme covers all Universities/Institutions recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as under :

Central State Universities (including affiliated and constituent institutions) that are included in Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 and with valid accreditation from NAAC.

Deemed Universities as per Section 3 of UGC Act, i.e., Institution that is notified by the Central Government to be deemed University in collaboration with UGC and possessing and obtaining an accredited status from NAAC.

The institution is fully funded by the State / Central Government and with the authority to confer degrees.

Institutions that are of National Importance as notified by Ministry of Human Resource Development. (mhrd.gov.in/institutions-national-importance )

The fellowship will assist minorities who are undertaking regular and full-time research projects that lead to being awarded an M.Philor Ph.D degree in India only. It will allow them to be able to apply in positions with M.Phil as well as Ph.D in the requirements, such as the post of Assistant Professor in various institutions of higher learning. UGC is the primary agency to implement the Fellowship and will ensure it is included in the MANF Scheme is also included in the Notification/Press release to be issued by the National testing Agency (NTA) for the UGC-NET exam or Joint CSIR-UGC NET exams.

Eligibility Criteria for UGC MAN Fellowship

A candidate must satisfy the following requirements in order to be eligible to receive the award of this fellowship. He/she is a member of one the minority communities that are notified by the section 2. (c) of the National Commission on Minorities Act of 1992, namely., Buddhist, Christian, Jain, Muslim, Sikh, Zoroastrian (Parsi).

The UGC-NET exam and Joint CSIR UGC NET exam will be required for the awarding to Maulana Azad’s National Fellowship to minority students in M.Phil/Ph.D.

The eligibility requirements are as per the announcement regarding UGC-NET as well as Joint CSIR-UGC-NET exams.

It is the Minority Community candidates, who have already been admitted and passed the NET exam, are given priority. These candidates will have to join fellowship within three months after the issue of the JRF award letter.

The date of the beginning of the fellowship is the date of the declaration of results of UGC-NET JRF and Joint CSIR UGC-NET JRF or the date of joining, which ever is the later.

If the required number of candidates who have already gained admission are not available, applicants who haven’t yet secured admission will be also considered by merit during the NET exam.

These candidates are eligible for fellowship under MANF in exchange for admission to M.Phil./Ph.D. within research establishments.

The validity that the grant is for is three years w.e.f. the date when the JRF Award letter under the scheme.

A scholar is able to be awarded just one scholarship at each time. The scholar is required to declare that he/she will not accept/receive any other monetary benefit/scholarship/fellowship from any other source. In other words, a scholar who is awarded fellowship under this scheme shall not accept any other fellowship/scholarship or hold any appointment, paid or otherwise, or receive any emoluments, salary, stipend etc. in any way during the period that the fellowship is awarded (except when it is a an academic leave for an entire year). In case, a scholar is already in receipt of any scholarship/fellowship, he/she will have to relinquish either the previous scholarship / fellowship/ any other monetary benefit or to forgo the selection under this scheme.

If a scholar fails to finish his/her research during the fellowship period will not be eligible to apply for a second fellowship for this fellowship. A student who has partially used a fellowship in the past is also not eligible to receive an award in this program. The employees of any Universityor College or Educational Institutionalor Centralor Stateor UT Government shall be excluded from obtaining fellowships even if they are on study leave or EOL to complete the M.Phil./Ph.D. course.

Selection Process for MAN Fellowship

A total amount of slot available for the fellowships that will be awarded under the scheme is 1,000 per year.

From the available slots of 1000 in this program, 750 slots will be allocated to subjects covered by the National Eligibility Test – Junior Research Fellowship (NETJRF) of UGC and the remaining 250 will be reserved for Science category students by an CSIRUGC-NET-JRF joint test. sciences streams.

Duration of MAN Fellowship:

The duration of the gap of M.Phil up to Ph.D. in the Doctoral Fellowship schemes shall be two months (from when you receive the the declaration of the result of M.Phil. up to the date of admission Ph.D.). The duration of the fellowship shall be for five years (excluding gaps. The fellowship will not be paid during the gap time. The fellowship’s duration is as follows:

House Rent Allowance (HRA)

Housing Rent Allowance (HRA) in the amount of 8 percent 16%, 12 percent and 24% are available to students not provided with accommodation in a hostel as per the Govt. of India guidelines that are applicable to the location or city in which the research fellows are working.

Hostel accommodation can be provided to students by their universities. In such instances the scholar is entitled to claim only the charges for the hostel, which exclude mess electric, water charges, and so on.

In case hostel accommodation offered by the university/institution is refused by the candidate, he/she will forfeit his/her claim of HRA.

In the event of inaccessibility of accommodation in hostels the student may be given a single-room accommodation by the institution hosting them. In these instances the amount of rent that the scholar has paid on a daily basis is paid back up to the maximum amount of HRA in accordance with the Government. of India rules.
